Choosing a certification training provider
Compare training providers on four separate things: whether the certification body authorizes them, whether your class date is guaranteed, exactly what the price includes, and who teaches. Prices differ by provider: in November 2026 we found 4 live CCNA classes from $3,795 to $4,495 with the exam, and 3 CISSP classes from $4,144 to $4,295. Check authorization on the certification body's own site rather than the provider's logo, and get the inclusions, dates and cancellation terms in writing before you pay.
How to check a provider is authorized
| Certification body | Program name | How to check |
|---|---|---|
| Cisco | Cisco Authorized Learning Partner | Find partners with Cisco's partner locator; find their scheduled classes in the Learning Locator |
| Microsoft | Microsoft Training Services Partner | Use Find a partner on Microsoft Learn's Training Services Partners page |
| AWS | AWS Training Partner | Use Find an AWS Training Partner |
| ISC2 | Official Training Partner | Search ISC2's training finder; ISC2 says a course not listed there is not official |
| ISACA | Accredited Training Organization | Check ISACA's accredited training partner list, by region |
| PeopleCert (ITIL, PRINCE2) | Accredited Training Organization | Search PeopleCert's ATO finder |
| PMI | Authorized Training Partner | Match the provider's legal name in PMI's ATP directory; from December 1, 2026 it matters for PMP hours |
| CompTIA | CompTIA Authorized Partner | No public lookup that we found; ask CompTIA to confirm a provider's claim |
| EC-Council | Accredited Training Center | No public lookup that we found; ask EC-Council to confirm |
| Linux Foundation | Authorized Training Partner | No public directory; the program page lists a contact |
A provider's own "authorized" or "official" label is a claim, not a check. Where the body has a lookup, use it; where it does not, ask the body. Authorized courses usually use the issuer's official courseware, which helps for exams such as CCNP or AWS where objectives change, but it does not guarantee a better instructor.
Guaranteed to run: what it promises
Providers can cancel a live class when too few people enroll. A "guaranteed to run" (GTR) class is one the provider commits to holding on the date shown. Global Knowledge marks GTR classes on its schedules and limits cancellation to causes outside its control; Learning Tree says a GTR event will run at the specified date and time; ONLC markets a large number of guaranteed sessions. Ask three things: is my exact session guaranteed today, what happens if it is cancelled anyway, and can I transfer to another date without a fee?
Questions that change the price
Our bootcamp cost guide covers voucher inclusion, exam versions, date-tied prices and retakes. Three more questions decide whether a provider is worth its price:
What do I keep after the class? Lab access, practice tests and recordings often end when the class does.
Who is the instructor? Ask for the name and whether they hold the certification. A good instructor matters more than the brand on the invoice.
What is the cancellation and transfer policy? Know your deadline for a refund before you book.
When an employer or team is buying
Buying for several people changes the comparison: public seats, a private class and self-paced training plus vouchers each fit different cases. Our team training page compares all three, prices public seats and self-paced routes, and lists what to ask for in a group quote.
How we name providers
Each certification guide lists published prices from named providers with the date we checked them, cheapest first. No provider pays to be listed or to change a recommendation. If you ask us for help, we do not pass your details to a provider unless you later agree to a specific introduction. See how we make money.
Questions
- Does it matter if a training provider is authorized?
- For PMP live training from December 1, 2026, yes: it must come from a PMI Authorized Training Partner, a China R.E.P. or an eligible academic program to count toward the 35 hours. For most other exams it is a sign of official courseware, not a requirement.
- What does guaranteed to run mean?
- The provider commits to holding that session on the date shown even if enrollment is low. Policies differ, so ask what happens if it is cancelled anyway.
- Which training provider is cheapest?
- It changes by certification and date. Each certification guide sorts the providers we checked by first-attempt cost.
