Cloud+ for admins who run more than one cloud: is CV0-004 worth it?
Cloud+ CV0-004 costs $399 for a single US voucher as of November 2026, or $519 with a retake. A first attempt runs from $548 with CompTIA's practice bundle to $3,294 with a five-day class. CompTIA estimates this version retires in 2027 but has not published a date. For an admin who already works in the cloud, we estimate 6 to 10 weeks of study.
Key facts
- A Cloud+ voucher costs $399 in the US, or $519 with Retake Assurance; both are valid for 12 months. (CompTIA, checked November 5, 2026)
- CV0-004 launched September 24, 2024; CompTIA lists its retirement as usually three years after launch, estimated 2027. (CompTIA, checked November 5, 2026)
- The exam has a maximum of 90 questions in 90 minutes, and the passing score is 750 on a 100 to 900 scale. (CompTIA, checked November 5, 2026)
- Renewal takes 50 continuing education units and a $150 fee per three-year cycle. (CompTIA, checked November 5, 2026)
What Cloud+ says about the person holding it
CompTIA describes Cloud+ as validating "skills in cloud infrastructure" for people working in multi-cloud environments: architecture, deployment, operations, security, DevOps basics and troubleshooting. It is not tied to one provider, so it shows breadth across clouds rather than depth in any one console.
A good fit if
- You administer servers or cloud workloads and have done it hands-on for two to three years
- Your organization runs a mix of public and private cloud, or more than one provider
- Your employer or a contract asks for a CompTIA credential, or uses the NICE and DCWF work roles CompTIA maps Cloud+ to
- You hold Network+ and want the next vendor-neutral step toward infrastructure work
Think twice if
- You are new to IT: CompTIA recommends 2 to 3 years as a systems administrator or cloud engineer
- Your job is on one cloud: an AWS or Azure exam maps directly to the console you use
- You want to build applications rather than run infrastructure
Consider instead: AWS CloudOps Engineer Associate if you administer AWS, AZ-104 if you administer Azure, Google Associate Cloud Engineer for Google Cloud, AWS Cloud Practitioner only if you are new to AWS, or Network+ if networking is still the gap.
The CV0-004 exam, and what CompTIA recommends first
There is no formal prerequisite: anyone can buy a voucher and sit the exam. CompTIA recommends 2 to 3 years of hands-on experience as a systems administrator or cloud engineer; that is advice, not a gate. The exam has a maximum of 90 multiple-choice and performance-based questions in 90 minutes, and you pass at 750 on a 100 to 900 scale. It is offered in English and Japanese. CompTIA lists no successor version yet; the page gives retirement as "estimated 2027", so if you test in 2027, check the Cloud+ page for a new exam code first.
| Area | Weight |
|---|---|
| Cloud architecture | 23% |
| Deployment | 19% |
| Security | 19% |
| Operations | 17% |
| Troubleshooting | 12% |
| DevOps fundamentals | 10% |
Architecture and deployment together are 42% of the exam, so expect questions on choosing cloud models, migrating workloads and infrastructure as code, not only on day-to-day operations.
Study routes for CV0-004
- Self-study from the objectives. CompTIA gives the exam objectives away after an email sign-up. If you already run cloud workloads, the objectives plus your provider's free documentation cover much of it; we did not find a free full Cloud+ course from a major provider.
- CompTIA CertMaster. CompTIA's own self-paced products: Practice (timed practice exams, $209 alone), Learn (lessons with simulated labs, $499 alone) and Perform (lessons with live virtual machine labs, $664 alone). Bundles with a voucher and retake cost less than buying the parts.
- A five-day live class. ONLC and Global Knowledge both teach CV0-004 live online. This suits teams, or admins whose experience is on one cloud and who want an instructor for the parts they have not touched.
Cloud+ prices, $548 to $3,294
Totals add the $399 voucher where the price does not include one. If you study only from the objectives and your own work, the voucher alone is the whole cost.
| Route | Provider and course | Published price | Exam fee | First attempt |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Practice tests with voucher | CompTIA, Cloud+ Practice and Exam Bundle with Retake: CertMaster Practice plus a voucher with Retake Assurance. Checked November 5, 2026. | $548 | Included | $548 |
| Self-paced course with voucher | CompTIA, Cloud+ Learn and Exam Bundle with Retake: CertMaster Learn plus a voucher with Retake Assurance. Checked November 5, 2026. | $764 | Included | $764 |
| Course, labs and practice with voucher | CompTIA, Cloud+ Complete Bundle with Retake: CertMaster Perform (live virtual machine labs), CertMaster Practice and a voucher with Retake Assurance. Checked November 5, 2026. | $978 | Included | $978 |
| Live online class with voucher | ONLC, CompTIA Cloud+ Certification Training (CV0-004), 5 days, live online; exam prep and a CompTIA voucher included. Checked November 5, 2026. | $2,495 | Included | $2,495 |
| Live virtual class | Global Knowledge, CompTIA Cloud+ Certification Prep Course (GK7271, CV0-004), 5 days; vouchers listed as related products, sold separately. Checked November 5, 2026. | $2,895 | + $399 voucher | $3,294 |
Beyond the table: a second attempt without Retake Assurance means buying another $399 voucher, while the voucher with a retake is $519. Keeping the certification costs $150 every three years if you renew with continuing education units. Bundles must be redeemed within 12 months of purchase.
Questions to put to a Cloud+ training provider
- Is the course built for CV0-004? ONLC and Global Knowledge both list CV0-004. With a 2027 retirement estimate, ask what happens to your course access if CompTIA releases a new version before you test.
- Is a voucher in the price, and is there a retake? ONLC includes a voucher, and says its Exam Pass Guarantee and a free class repeat within a year apply. Global Knowledge lists vouchers as separate products. CompTIA's bundles include a retake.
- Which clouds do the labs use? Cloud+ is vendor-neutral, so ask whether labs run on real provider accounts or simulations, and for how long you keep access.
- Is the date guaranteed to run? Global Knowledge marks some dates "Guaranteed To Run"; ask any provider before you book travel or time off.
Renewing Cloud+
Cloud+ is valid for three years. To renew with continuing education, earn 50 units in the three-year cycle and pay CompTIA's $150 fee. Passing the latest version of the exam also counts, without the fee, and so does renewing CloudNetX, which CompTIA lists as fully renewing Cloud+.
For infrastructure teams
For a team that spans several clouds or keeps workloads on premises, Cloud+ gives a shared baseline that does not favor one provider. Ask providers whether a private class includes a voucher per seat and whether its labs cover the providers your team runs.
Common questions
- How much is the Cloud+ exam?
- $399 for a US voucher as of November 2026, or $519 with a retake.
- Is Cloud+ CV0-004 retiring?
- CompTIA lists retirement as usually three years after launch, estimated 2027. It had not published an exact date or a new exam code on November 5, 2026.
- Should I take Cloud+ or an AWS or Azure exam?
- If your job is on one provider, that provider's exam matches your work more closely. Cloud+ fits mixed environments and roles that ask for a CompTIA credential.
- Do I need Network+ first?
- No. CompTIA lists no prerequisite certification for Cloud+; it recommends 2 to 3 years of hands-on admin or cloud work.
